M&O Budget Fact Sheet

GUHSD Board Calls For Election

  • At the May 18 meeting, the GUHSD Governing Board unanimously voted to call for an election on November 8, 2022, to renew the current Maintenance & Operations Override. If approved by voters, the continuation of the 10% will maintain the current override funding and prevent cuts to the M&O budget within GUHSD.

What Is An M&O Override?

  • What is a Maintenance and Operations Budget Override?

A school district’s budget is limited by law. Yet school districts may ask voters for direct funding to supplement budget allocations from the Legislature. With approximately 85 percent of the M & O budget used for staff salaries and related benefit costs for the district’s 2,000 employees, community support is necessary to maintain programs or services beyond the basic state standard.

Community Input Meetings

  • Maintenance and Operation (M&O) override funding is available to school districts across Arizona. Glendale Union High School District (GUHSD) is no exception.

GUHSD has had its override in place since the 1990s, which provides additional funding for the daily operation of the school district.

In order for the Glendale Union High School District to continue receiving funding associated with the current M&O override, voters must approve the continuation during an election in November of 2022. While the continuation of the override would not be new to the community, it is still required that voters approve this initiative.

Public presentations are being planned to provide information and to gather input from our community. The format calls for the communities of three schools to gather at one location. While it is preferred that you attend the presentation at your local high school, please feel free to attend any of the presentations. Your attendance and involvement in this decision-making process is important to the students of our district.
